With so many different SEO agencies out there these days, it can be difficult making a decision when it comes to hiring one. After all, you’re making an investment in your business and want to ensure that the choice you make is the right one. The following tips can help you make that choice if you’re currently looking for an SEO agency:
What do people have to say about the agency you’re considering? Search online for reviews, reach out to their past and current clients, and read their testimonials on their websites. If you’re unable to find any of this information, ask the agency for case studies or portfolios of their work so you can see firsthand what they can do. If you’re unable to find any information online and they’re unwilling to send you samples of their work, that can be a red flag. The agency may have performed poorly in the past, or could be a new agency with little to no experience. An inexperienced agency isn’t necessarily one to avoid, but you just may not get the results you’re seeking.
If you don’t have a specific agency in mind already and don’t know where to start, ask your network if they have any recommendations. With so many companies these days working with SEO agencies to increase their online presence, you’re bound to know several people who can refer you to a reputable agency.
SEO can be extremely competitive, especially when it comes to certain industries and ranking for specific keywords. In an effort to get as much as business as possible, many SEO agencies solicit prospective clients by claiming to get them on page one of Google for all of the keywords they’re after. While it’s certainly possible to rank well for very competitive keywords with a lot of hard work, this should never be a guarantee. A reputable SEO agency will instead work with you to set realistic goals, and then put a plan in place to achieve those goals. If an SEO agency makes promises that just seem way too good to be true, they likely are, and you should steer clear.
As you discuss your goals with the SEO agency you’re considering, be sure to ask for details on how they plan to achieve those goals. A reputable SEO agency will be completely transparent about their tactics and will only use white hat strategies. Beware of SEO agencies that are unwilling to share their strategies with you, or that use black hat tactics, unreliable shortcuts, or other sneaky approaches. These types of tactics never work in the long-term, and can actually cause a website to get permanently banned from search engine results.
